KAKI SAYS is an animated educational series designed to introduce Singaporean children to the nation’s traditional festivals and cultural celebrations. The series consists of 7 episodes, each focusing on a different festive occasion. Through engaging storytelling and colorful animation, Kaki Says delivers fun, interesting, and educational insights that help young viewers better understand the meaning, values, and traditions behind each celebration.
Ep01 - Duanwu Festival
“Kaki Says” makes its debut with a fun and light-hearted introduction to the Duanwu Festival. Through engaging animation, Kaki brings viewers on a journey to uncover the fascinating legends, customs, and cultural significance behind this traditional Chinese festival—also known as the “Health Festival.”
Meet legendary figures such as Qu Yuan, Wu Zixu, and Cao E, and discover why dragon boat racing and rice dumplings became central to Duanwu. With humor and storytelling, this episode reveals how history, myth, and tradition come together to shape the festival we celebrate today.
ep02 - Chinese New Year
Kaki returns with his signature wit to uncover the meaning behind Chinese New Year traditions. From spring cleaning and wearing red to exchanging Mandarin oranges and red packets, Kaki explains why these customs matter and how they came about.
Discover the historical origins of Chinese New Year practices, learn how families prepare for the celebrations, and pick up essential bai nian etiquette—all brought to life through a fun and engaging animation that keeps culture alive for young audiences.
ep04 - Zhongyuan Festival
This episode, Kaki returns with wiser—and cheekier—fun facts as he takes viewers on the HXD Shuttle Bus to learn about the Zhongyuan Festival. This episode offers a friendly refresher on the festival’s significance, including how beliefs and practices may differ between Buddhist and Taoist communities in Singapore.
From common customs to important dos and don’ts during the seventh lunar month, Kaki breaks it all down in a fun and accessible way, helping young audiences better understand this cultural period while staying mindful and respectful.
ep06 - Winter Solstice Festival
Step into the winter season with Kaki as he unpacks the meaning and traditions of the Winter Solstice Festival, breaking down the 24 solar terms and the significance of consuming nourishing foods during this important seasonal transition.
From the origins of tangyuan to the different phases of winter, this fun and humorous animation helps young audiences understand the science, culture, and traditions behind the Winter Solstice Festival.
ep03 - Qingming Festival
Join Kaki as he explores the origins and traditions of the Qingming Festival,a meaningful occasion to honour ancestors and loved ones. Through lively storytelling, he shares legends and fascinating facts.
With his bubbly personality and clear explanations, Kaki introduces Jie Zitui and the Cold Food Festival,helping young viewers understand customs, values, and history, while appreciating the cultural significance of this symbolic day for families today and generations to come everywhere across cultures.
ep05 - Mid-Autumn Festival
This episode, Join Kaki as he dives into the magical stories and traditions behind the Mid-Autumn Festival. From the legend of Wu Gang the woodcutter to secret messages once hidden inside mooncakes during Yuan China, Kaki uncovers the lesser-known tales that shaped this celebration.
Through myths, full-moon worship, and cultural practices, Kaki explains the significance of mooncakes and the festival’s symbolism, bringing history to life in a fun and engaging way for young audiences.
EP07 - Tua Pek Kong
Our beloved Kaki is back to explore the origins and significance of Tua Pek Kong worship. Learn why devotees pray to Tua Pek Kong for safety, love, and wealth, and how these beliefs took root in local communities.
Discover how the worship of earth deities began in traditional Chinese villages and evolved in Singapore, leading to the many Tua Pek Kong temples found across different neighbourhoods today.

Overview
What keeps traditional Chinese festivals and beliefs alive in modern Singapore? Another meaningful opportunity arose for Balance. This time, we partnered with SCCC to produce Kaki Says—an animated educational series that brings Chinese festivals, customs, and folk beliefs to life for young audiences in Singapore.
Through humour, storytelling, and culturally rooted narratives, Kaki guides viewers across key traditional celebrations and local practices, helping to preserve heritage while making culture accessible, relatable, and fun for the next generation.
